Gnotify is back
I just resumed the work on Gnotify, now with the help of and another developer called Sebastian Kaugume Kaminski. We’re working on the completely rewritten Gnotify version 2.0 and already have testable Code in the project’s CVS at BerliOS. Basically, the new features are the usage of D-Bus for interacting with other applications and a new Theme-Engine (using XML with embedded Base64-Images) which makes Gnotify-Popups themeable by the user. Gnotify 2.0 also allows applications to send their icons Base64 encoded to Gnotify what means, that a remote client doesn’t has to make sure that the icon exists on the Gnotify-Daemon system.
Up to now there are no clients for the new version of Gnotify available, but if you are familiar with the D-Bus client API and would be interessted in writing one just contact me (or Kaugume) and I’ll give you all infos about the protocol you need to know. We are still searching someone for helping us developing other Tools around Gnotify, like the libgnotify-2.0, the Gnotify-Configuration Tool and the Gnotify-Theming Tool. If you are interessted say “HERE!”
I hope that we will be able to release the first beta of Gnotify 2.0 in a few weeks …
