However, after I bought Money, I exported my whole transaction info from my ING-DiBa account as CSV (since they do not provide me anything else) and tried to import it into Money – and it failed. I was using the latest version (3.4.4 v1938) and had quite a few problems with the CSV import. First of all, the columns haven’t been recognized automatically. Also, I didn’t really knew how to import the transaction-value, since I only had one column containing a positive (income) or a negative (outgoing) number, where Money expected “Withdrawal” and “Deposit”. Also, Money seemed to have problems with the punctuation of the numbers, what cause 1000€ to become 100€. And in general, the software didn’t work well with the CSV my bank provided me. I had to manually cut out the first few lines (which were just some additional information but not party of the transactions) and stuff line that. I was wondering, why this is so, since Squirrel automatically recognized the CSV and imported it just perfectly into my virtual account.

I wrote an e-mail to Jumsoft and explained the problems I have with my freshly purchased Money and of course asked for help. After some more mailing, I got a patched version of Money one day later. I tried it out and: Bam! It worked! The CSV imports work just as they should now, even if there’s still no automatic column recognition. Still, I’m very happy that Jumsoft helped my out that fast and in such an uncomplicated way – I’m not used to this from Apple-related companies anymore.

After I had all my data imported into Money and got everything categorized, synced the info up to my iPhone, what also worked out as smooth as I’d expect it.

The one thing I did not check yet are the possibilities to sync Money over two different Macs. I’m sure it’s possible by using the Dropbox-way, although I would not like to upload such sensitive information to my Dropbox. Maybe it’s possible to sync via W-LAN, dunno.

It seems to be possible to sync different Macs via MobileMe! Hurray! I’ll test it out and give some feedback as soon as possible.

Google Wave Dev Preview

I can happily announce (or brag :-P) that I’ve just received my Google Wave invitation today and already created my account. I’m really excited of exploring and developing on Google’s Wave, especially with the ideas I already have in mind. Yet, I just clicked around a bit, due to the lack of free time, but as soon as I can I will take a deeper look at the API and try out some stuff I might even publish here. So stay tuned to see read (and maybe see) the latest progress of my Wavealicious ideas/implementations.

On August 23rd, I wrote an E-Mail to the SourceForge-Support:

Dear Sir or Madam,

some years (now already ago, I registred on SourceForge.net (Username: devilx) and uploaded some OpenSource-Projects of mine. After a while, my Account has been blocked without any (for me visible) reason. Now, I’m interessted in using this Account again, unfortunately I can’t re-enable it by recovering the password (or else).

thank you for your reply. I don’t know, why I should have violate your policy, since I didn’t do anything wrong on that account. It had been removed shortly after I created a project named “BFC”, what stood for Brainf*ck Compiler. I’m sorry, but it is not my fault for the Programming-Languag being called like that. If you rejected the project because of this fact, it would have been fair. But deleteing my whole account is pretty sad.

I was having some projects running under that account, which seem to be still available. Are there any possibilities for me to get my account named “devilx” (and all the project memberships I had) back?

Hi,

The account was closed at the time as there was a policy violation. We
won’t be restoring that account.

you may open a new account and if you desire, attempt to take over the
projects. If they are abandoned, this should be very easy to do.

And yeah, I know, it’s a free service and they have the right to do whatever they would want, blah blah blah. Still, it’s the fact that the support apparently had no idea what the actual problem with my account was nor why it really had been blocked. I’m not going to sign up for a new account, since nowadays there are (luckily) way more possibilities to get your own project hosted in whatever way.

Yet again a poor statement the OpenSource related projects/SourceForge makes.

For example, on Twitter it’s possible to personalize messages by inserting the user it’s destined for with an @ as prefix. By using applications which spread the Twitter status-messages all over the net, you begin to see posts from the very same person on platforms like Facebook, where the @user doesn’t make any sense. Also it’s a matter of syntax: While Twitter allows you to write messages the way you want to write them, Facebook forces you (by placing your Name in front of the actual status-message) to use sentences like “has gone away.”, “is finally back home”, et cetera. Since many people now seem to be using Twitter as primary input-channel, you often get to see Facebook messages that look like John Doe Going now to bed. – what’s really ugly and doesn’t make sense in any kind.

I’m asking why? Why do people need to spread one and the same message over dozens of web-platforms? Why can’t they just personalize each message to not make the other “friends” think it’s just another-useless-nonsense-mass-message?

I mean, come on. What’s the deal with multiple platforms then? I still keep each platform personalized and decide what information I would write on what platform. I mean, maybe the circle of followers of my Twitter account (where I personally have more techies than regular people) aren’t interested in reading about stuff I would write to my “normal” friends in Facebook – and the other way around. And as I just said, by making Twitter (or whatever other service) the first input-channel, people kinda stop caring about the other platforms they spread their information at – so it’s actually useless to comment on their status on other platforms than Twitter.

Of course, one could argue of this being a time problem, since he/she would not have the time to write messages into each platform separately – but I mean, why is he/she then registered on every web-community existing on the internet? If time only allows me the usage of one service, I choose the one that fits best for my needs and keep using it.

I think otherwise the whole idea of different platforms is for the birds – why not creating one huge web-community which includes every platform like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. into one service, so nobody would need to spread the information anymore onto ten different services.

Hmpf… oh well.
